Consultant vs. Sales Person

Have you ever wondered why it is so difficult to find a sales representative in any field who will actually look out for their clients best interest, not their own pocketbook? Real Estate is certainly no different. In fact there are probably more real estate agents in the business who fall into this category due to very lax standards and lack of ongoing accountability practices.
As a real estate broker and being actively involved in the business since 1981, I have seen a lot of people come and go in the real estate industry. I have also seen many ‘big name’ agents who churn and burn transactions many times to the disadvantage of their client’s best interests. The perception in the marketplace is that since these agents are famous and advertise big in a particular neighborhood, they must be good. This couldn’t be further from the truth in many instances. As a real estate consultant I approach the business with a much broader perspective and vantage point than one would receive from a traditional ‘salesperson.’ To clear up any misconception of what a real estate consultant is, all of the traditional information gathering and services are similar with one very important difference. As a consultant, I will approach you or your referrals individual needs based upon practices that are truly looking out for the best interest of my clients. This is in direct contrast to the sales approach. I am looking out long term for my clients and am not looking to make a quick sale for the sake of my own pocketbook.
What this means to my clients is this: If I am helping a seller with the sale of their particular property, I will evaluate the property’s strengths and potential for added value by creatively and aggressively marketing their property to achieve top dollar in their particular market. This is based on all of the variables in a time frame that is in the seller’s best interest. If I am helping a buyer either coordinate the sale of their home for another home or a buyer looking for the best home or investment property, I will carefully evaluate and present options including the areas and price range that is affordable as well as point the buyer to various financing options. My motto is “Experience the Difference” and I believe in treating my clients the same way I would want to be treated.
